Blue Mountains - 90 minutes west of Sydney

Our day started by driving the hour and a half to the Blue Mountains NationalPark.  They are "blue" because of the evaportation from the oil of the eucalyptus (gum tree) forest.  We aren't sure they were blue (a bit hazy today), but they are beautiful.  We were slow leaving in the morning as this tourist stuff is tiring, so by the time we got there it was lunch time.  We had brought our lunch in back packs and so found our way to some picnic tables after crossing on the skyway.  We had guests for lunch.  There were about 25 or so cuckatoos that decided to join us.  One kept jumping on the bench beside Grace.  They were all white with bright yellow plumes.  Here Lance is trying to feed them after we had finished.

There are many lookout spots and you can see the 3 pointed rocks in the background.  Those are the 3 sisters - we aren't sure why they are called that.  It was a cool hazy day and it sprinkled on our way up, but the sun finally came out.  They were formed by wind and water erosion of the sedimentary rock.

This is the upper part of Katoomba Falls. It falls 3500 feet.  There has not been much rain in the last few months so the falls does not have much water running, but we are in a rainforest, so it is still very lush.

Katoomba Falls river.  There are different kinds of ferns, fern trees and eucalyptus trees over 150 years old.  We bought honey that the bees used the nectar from these trees and oak trees in the area.  It is delicious and is very different than our clover honey.

Three sisters and David is the small one on the right.  We were told their relationship is "on the rocks"!

Dale liked the signage.  We would use passing, but they do have a way with words.  Remember we are driving on the left side of the road and round abouts are a true joy as you enter them from the left.
