Great Barrier Reef

Our day started early with an early pick up at our resorts.  We rode for 10 minutes to the marina.  Our skipper and first mate - Pete and Erin - greeted us.  We removed our shoes and they served us morning tea - which was really coffee or tea and lovely pastries.  We sailed for over 2 1/2 hours to the reef (20 km).  As we got closer we were given a refresher course on snorkeling.  We got our fins, masks and wet suits and jumped in.  The water was
a warm 29 degrees C.  It felt great.  The reef was the most amazing thing.  Our skipper and Erin both said that what we were seeing was exceptional.  There were more fish than usual and we saw sting ray and even reef sharks.  The colors were beyond explanation.  The clams were at least 3 feet wide and just like in "Finding Nemo".  We spent over an hour in the water and then got out to refuel.

There were 12 guests and we sat down to the most unbelievable meal.  There were numerous salads of fresh vegetables and the barbecue of chili flavored prawns, chicken and fresh Spanish Mackeral fish from the Coral Sea.  We were all starved and it tasted so good.

Pete, our captain and chef at the grill.  As most barbies, there are 3 meats and this was not exception.  During the day we were also served fresh pineapple, green grapes, watermelon, cheese and crackers along with cheesecake bits and brownies.

Sailing back.  We had a beautiful day and were blessed with a perfect day in every way.  We met people from all over and it was delightful.  One couple had spent 5 years in Singapore and moving to Canada. Another couple that just got married Sat. and had never been here before.  We went to the fruit market and store and enjoyed a quiet dinner back at the resort.
