Architectural Tour and Jersey Boys

February 21, 2013 - Thursday.   We got up after lots of driving and headed across the street to the Queen Victoria Market - it opened in 1878 and has over 1000 stalls of EVERYTHING.  Below is just a tiny piece of the fruits and vegetables.  But not only produce - meat, fish, bread, olives, cheese, clothing, things you thought you needed, things you would never need - everything,  It was just fun to wander through.

We needed to get from point A to B so took the free trolley - you can get on and off when you want and it is free- what is not to like - it is old, but that is its charm.

We got off down by the Yarra River to go visit the Eureka Tower.  This is metal scupture on a bridge supporting the art work... on our way to the Eureka Tower building.

The Eureka Tower - tallest residential  building in the southern hemisphere.  It opened in May 2007.  The top 10 floors are gold glass so it glimmers in the sunlight.

We went to the Skydeck - 88th floor offers a view of the city.  This is the train station on the bottom left and Federation Square above it.

This is a view of the stadiums and all of the tennis courts where they played all that tennis you heard about in January.

All of these buildings and area are the cultural center (opera, performing arts, etc.) of Melbourne with the river running through it.

Floor of the 88th floor - gives direction via moving light signage and also information about the city below.

The EDGE - couldn't take a camera out there so we took a picture of other people.  You go into this box, which then slides out of the building 3 meters and you have a glass floor beneath your feet - so you can look straight down - it was a breathtaking view with the city literally at your feet.

Marty near the edge, but not in the glass box - we were actually outside here.

Saw a similar mailbox in the Sydney Tower in Sydney - don't know who is right.

Can't see it well - but there is a ship in the top left - we think this is where our cruise ship was docked a few weeks ago when we were there.

The exterior of the Eureka Tower - bees everywhere - not sure why - they were gold and huge!

The Eureka Tower - am impressive very contemporary looking building.

We then took the trolley to the RMIT University.  This is a technology university and has many very unusual buildings.  This is the foyer of one of them.

This is a lounge area of the same building.

Another exterior shot of one of the university buildings.

Looking straight up another building.

As we were walking the city we came to Princess Theatre - built in1857 and seats 1488 and ghosts have been seen here.  Jersey Boys was showing and we decided to see if we could get tickets.  We could - so we did more sight seeing of buildings and then went back to our hotel for a little rest.  Then back on foot and stopped at
a great little Italian resturant and then off to the show.  It was a beautiful theatre, needs a little work, and a great show.  We had so much fun and then a good 20 minute walk back to our hotel.
